Sŵnami reveal the brand new music video for their latest single, ‘Paradis Disaparu’. For the award winning Welsh indie-pop group’s new track, they employed the talents of Bafta Cymru winner Callum Scott Howells from ‘It’s A Sin’, as well as fellow Welsh actress Saran Morgan, from films like ‘Under Milk Wood’ to deliver an eye catching experience that complements their wistful guitars and melodic prowess.
Gearing up for their second album, ‘Sŵnamii’, arriving later this summer, the band have never compromised on their musical sound by not singing primarily in English, with ‘Paradis Disparu’ the next project that has seen them collaborate with other Welsh creatives. The new video is a colourful explosion with incredible performances from the two leads, with Callum describing the experience of working with the band: “Swnami are such a special group of artists and a band that I’ve heard so much about, it was a pleasure to be able to feature in one of their music videos. The song and the message of it is something that really resonated with me and I loved the whole concept of the piece.”
“The shoot was so much fun. We had a great day that was really organic, fun and impulsive. Sam was so great to work with, we laughed through most of the day. It was amazing to be able to work with Saran, an actor I really admire and a good friend. I loved it and I’m very proud to be a small part of the Swnami cannon.”
With previous Sŵnami videos starring the likes of Tom Rhys Harries, and Linford Hydes of the Welsh Ballroom Community, it’s only a natural progression that the band would end up joining forces with Callum and Saran. Speaking on working alongside Callum to create the video, Saran said: “The process of working with Callum under the leadership of Sam felt so organic, fun and creative. For example, the scene with the ladybird was so impromptu, we found it there and then and played around with it (Carefully!) in our hands whilst Sam was filming. Sam was the scene setter, he told us what he was after in each scene, where we started and where we should end up and left the rest to us. It was so much fun to be able to incorporate our own styles and ideas into every scene! The fact that Callum was so wonderful made it easy to convey the closeness and intimacy needed between the characters.”
Originally launching in 2015, Sŵnami have quickly risen up due to their impressive instrumentals and trailblazing sound, winning a Welsh-language Album Of The Year Award for their self-titled debut. Having since then been featured in tastemakers like Clash Magazine, BBC News, and Spotify New Music Friday, as well as recording a coveted BBC Maida Vale session, the group are fast becoming the next big UK indie-pop band.
Sŵnami is Ifan Davies, Ifan Ywain, Gruff Jones, Gerwyn Murray, and Lewis Williams. The music video for ‘Paradis Disparu’ releases June 29th.
The band are due to play a series of summer festivals in Wales, including:
16th July: Sesiwn Farw, Dolgellau
30th July – 6th August: Eisteddfod Tregaron
