With his new single, a 90s-pop-infused summer-banger, Asbjørn once again proves his Scandinavian pop to be as inventive as it is catchy. Disguised as a one-man-boyband, Asbjørn lures you in with orchestral stabs and an infectious sing-along refrain - but I bet you’ve never heard a key-change quite like this. ‘(Love Like A) Teenager’ is accompanied by a secret music video, also teased in last months visuals for the first single Young Dumb Crazy.
The video turns back time to 2016, where the video was filmed - but never released - and is an exclusive gift to Asbjørn’s fans, who pre-save the song or sign up for his newsletter.
Since the beginning of his career, Asbjørn has explored gender and identity on stage, his lyrics and music videos. Striving to “be the male ideal I desperately needed myself when I was a teenager”, Asbjørn also tours schools in his native Denmark, combining an infectious live show with student dialogues to talk about ideals in the mainstream. He says: “I don’t care what society considers masculine, but I sure did back then. I want to create a space where they can express their identity, sexuality and feelings freely.”
In the coming weeks, Asbjørn will explore these matters further as a guest contributor at Germany’s leading music and culture magazine, KALTBLUT. Under the title POPTOPIA, Asbjørn will host a series of interviews on Kaltblut and Instagram Live, discussing identity and pop culture with prominent guests from both in and outside the music industry. The first instalment of POPTOPIA features the British rapper James Indigo, and will be announced via Asbjørn’s socials and Kaltblut.
‘(Love Like A) Teenager’ is released on Wednesday the 2nd of June and is Asbjørn’s second single from his forthcoming LP BOYOLOGY, due to be released later this year via Embassy of Music and his imprint Body of Work.
