-Nagamag.com

SOLON is the new kid in town. He just started producing a couple of months ago and within a short time he has releases confirmed under different aliases on several a-list labels.

He chooses to hide behind his modest hoody in order to direct all the attention to his music, where he expresses emotions and feelings that enable enjoying the present moment.

He started taking classical piano lessons as a young child and developed his love for music while listening to radio programs every night before bed.

Being influenced by techno and house pioneers, he decided to add a melodic touch to strong bass lines.

His tracks are powerful and inventive and have a unique capacity to fuel both intimate dance floors and big clubs with energy and drive.

OYLS – Netflix (Your Product is Too Good) (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , , , |

“What do you usually expect from a new release? “OYLS” have not only made a nice song, but also an interesting clip to watch. Based on its electronic sound style and funny lyrics, it can truly attract everyone’s interest.”

-Nagamag.com

LA based electronic duo OYLS are releasing the music video for their song “Netflix (Your Product Is Too Good)” directed by Nicole Lipp. Both the third single off their most recent album OYLS (For Your Consideration), as well as the third episode in a series of seamless videos dubbed as a visual ‘Pop Opera,’ the video stars legendary actor and Los Angeles local Danny Trejo (Machete, Spy Kids) in a very humanizing role: a lost soul binging Netflix late at night in a motel – with snacks, naturally.

With the hopes to destigmatize mental illness, the band shares, “The song is really about how we cope with our negative feelings, whether they stem from the stress of our daily lives, mental illness, or uncertainty about the world.” OYLS explains, “To have someone of Danny’s stature willing to portray a vulnerable character struggling with his own mind is invaluable to normalizing our conversations about mental health. It really is a huge honor to have him involved.”

“Netflix (Your Product Is Too Good)” takes a minimalistic stance sonically, crafted with an array of electronic warmth. With pulsing, throbbing synths, punctual pronunciation, rich in character and snappy tones softened by the echoing flares, the catchy hook and lyrics are dusted in a lighthearted gleam while holding a colder, more relatable theme. The song has moments of robotic, electro style harmonies adding a haunting effect and samples that add a witty sound but a harsh message, replicating that inner voice we all know.

Reflecting the addiction to the easily supplied, numb living of the modern world, the video shows Danny Trejo unknowingly glued to his screen with an endless supply of munchies, binging his life away. OYLS share, “We explore some of the conflicted relationships we have with pervasive technology and late-stage capitalism. Unlimited content at our fingertips is both a remarkable tool and a powerfully addictive escape.”

Prior to the release of OYLS (For Your Consideration), the duo sold space on their album cover for anyone to purchase, with proceeds going to MusiCares, a non-profit that assists musicians struggling with mental illness. Proceeds from this music video will also go to MusiCares and they have made it possible to donate directly to the cause through their Spotify page.

“We hope to impact the discourse surrounding mental illness. It’s such a stigmatized topic but so many sufler on a daily basis that it really shouldn’t be. Hopefully we can help make that change.”

“Netflix (Your Product Is Too Good)” will be followed by five more episodes slated for later this year, released via Handwritten Records.

Bjorn Rydhog – I Don’t Wanna Be Alone (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Blogwave, Blogwave Features, Features, The Latest|Tags: , , , , |

“There are moments we feel boredom and loneliness in a totally decaying world. This is the right time to pick some fine music and give ourselves a breath of hope. Bjorn Rydhog is here to offer his best work for this purpose. Don't miss his new single "I Don't Wanna Be Alone".”

-Nagamag.com

Together with producer Johan Sigerud (JRSS) and co-writer Olof Gråhamn, Bjorn Rydhog continues to take his melodic indie pop into an electronic and beat-based realm. Melancholic progressions are blended with a modern retro sound inspired by M83 and The Weeknd. A logical continuation of their previous collaboration, the single ‘Just to Be with You’, which was released in 2020 and was picked up by Swedish radio.

"The single ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Alone’ shows an electronic direction I’m currently exploring. The tracks of the song were recorded separately at our different homes. I guess the creation process, as well as the theme of the song, reflect the distant and lonely, but also creative times we currently live in”.

Abel Ray – Last Exit to Transkei (edit) (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, The Latest, World Music|Tags: , , , , |

“Are you into Electro sound? Here comes a groovy release with the seal of Abel Ray; a Dj and producer in the scene. Select "Last Exit to Transkei" to offer some African sparks for your ears. Let the higher bpm lift your feet from the gound and start the dance!”

-Nagamag.com

Eclectic electronica from Marrakesh, channelling the antecedents of contemporary North African culture.

'Last Exit' has been played by Lauren Laverne and Mary-Anne Hobbs at BBC 6Music, and is the first track from Abel's Labyrinth EP set for release this spring on PRAH Recordings.

The EP is a work of entirely modern construction, and yet it owes its origins to the ages. Programmed and produced to carry emotional weight and melodic reward in a digital age, here are the threads of a culture lost and found; spiritual, material, imagined, remembered, and mythologized.

"This EP came out of a book I read" explains Abel who was born in Casablanca and lives in Marrakesh, "the civilization of Amazigh culture, it was a maze, a maze of how people can be merged into each other and still keep the colors and sounds alive along thousands of years, an authenticity kept being modernized, and it will still be. ”

This conception of a cultural maze, an expanding sphere of colors and sounds, picked up and put down, built and borrowed, timeless and modern is an abstract for Abel Ray’s four track Labyrinth EP.

At the height of their collective power the Amazigh civilization ranged across north Africa to southern Europe, it conquered and was humbled, it absorbed and it overcame, it has dissolved and yet it precipitates throughout our world. Today the Amazigh are over 50million people, large minority populations in Morocco, Algeria, Libya, across Africa and Europe, a culture at once ancient and contemporary.

Born in Casablanca, living in Marrakesh. Abel's journey through electronic music began at an early age, he started making music at the age of 14. He is a music producer, DJ, sound designer and label boss, having created half team of Aberton Records, with Italian producer Nicolo Berton in 2014 , and Medina Recordswith his friend Ibrahim Ettalabi in 2018.

Nagamag:
What are the genres that describe better your music style?

Kick Bong:
It's not easy, if we stay within the codes of electronic music, I would say electronica, chillout, down tempo but also electro and techno sometimes or house and even pop, I have a lot of influences! I listened to a lot of funk, acid jazz, new wave, punk, rock.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Kick Bong:
In 1985 I met friends with whom we started a band and at 20 we signed an album at Barclay it was crazy! afterwards I played with a lot of groups on drums and percussion in different styles, recordings and concerts.
Well much later at the end of the 90s I discovered electronic music and I had another revelation so I started to buy equipment and at the beginning of 2000 I created Kick Bong it will be 20 years in 2021. I also have another Triptone project which is more pop, trip hop, electro with a lot of vocal features.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Kick Bong:
my dad listened to a lot of music and he introduced me to a lot of different artists and styles, so I started buying records very young when my mom was willing to give me some money, I started with 45rpm and albums later.
every time I listened to music I felt like I was on stage and like that every night I listened loudly and mimed the guitarist, the drummer etc ...
When I was 12, I started playing drums, it's an instrument that I already liked, I can't really explain why even though I loved playing the air guitar; )

Nagamag:
Most artists have a favorite song from a different music genre than the one they are producing music for... Which is yours?

Kick Bong:
The Cure "A strange day"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which track from a similar artist you admire?
