Shogun was written amidst a depressive episode for members of the band. It represented that strange place of pain and anxiety, it was a battle to write. Influence from Japan in Soto's writing led this song to be called Shogun. The song is full of space with lots of delay and echo on the guitar and drums which is use the ride to create a wall of sound.
