Nagamag:
Which are the genres that describe your music style better?

Dede K:
Afrobeat, Afropop, pop, afrohipop, reggae, dancehall

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Dede K:
Started music as Lil Bideo back in 2009 (while I was still in college). Had to drop music for some years to finish up my Bs.c education. In 2017, I returned to the musical world with a new stage name (Dede K aka De King Vibez). Music has always be part of me and I don’t see myself doing something else whilst I’m steady discovering new vibe.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Dede K:
Not sure.. grew up listening to legends and tbh, I’m not sure when I actually had interest in music but I do remember when it was time for me to record my first track in 2009

Nagamag:
How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Dede K:
I’m a storyteller and my music cuts across many genres. Rhythm, Melodic & lyric-intensive. Every song is a story or a poem told through music.. even in my party songs, I still fix in some meaningful words

Nagamag:
Many artists listen to genres that they are not producing music for. Which track is your favorite that is NOT similar to yours?

Dede K:
Young M.a. "Kween"

Nagamag:

Estella Dawn Interview on Nagamag

Nagamag:
Which are the genres that describe your music style better?

Estella Dawn:
Pop/Indie/Neo Soul/Electronic/Adult alternative are probably the main genres I write in. I've never been particularly worried about sticking to one genre, what I'm feeling and what I've been listening to impacts the music I make on any given day, I like to roll with that, Sometimes it's rock/pop other days it's laid back indie, you might not enjoy every song I've written but there's a wide range of styles so something might just tickle your fancy.

Nagamag:
Few words about your musical background and career?

Estella Dawn:
I began classical piano lessons at the age of 9, picked up the guitar a little later, around 13 and started writing more structured songs at that point. Banging away on the keys or strumming the three guitar chords I knew, it really just grew from there. Now I write in my own studio, using Logic. Recording software has helped me to expand my style and flesh out what I hear in my head. Having the ability to create beats and full song instrumentation has made a huge difference in where my songs are now, I've released 12 original songs in 2020/21.

Nagamag:
Do you remember your first connection of love to music that was the right impact to be a music artist now?

Estella Dawn:
I can't say that there's any specific moment in my childhood that I can attribute my love of music to, it's something I've always just gravitated to. I used to make up songs from a really young age and I was always just drawn to music related activities. Songwriting has become my way to reflect on and process the world and my experiences within it.

Nagamag:
Do you prefer studio or performing live and why?

Estella Dawn:
I enjoy both! However I am definitely more comfortable in the studio. It's easier to nail a vocal take when I'm not also trying to control my nerves. I've always been a pretty shy gal so I find my throat and voice do funny things when I'm performing live. I just have to work around it when I put my set together, I'll start out with easier songs and save the big belting numbers for later on. That being said, there's truly nothing like being on stage, you feel so close and connected to everyone listening, you also get to set the tone and create a mood. I think there's something incredibly special about live music, ultimately it's an experience shared between the people there that night and the performer. The show will be different, every crowd will react differently, every song will be sung/played a little different, you can't recreate that, it's like a snowflake.

Nagamag:
Who would you consider your main musical influences?

Estella Dawn:
Musically I have always been drawn to songwriters with interesting lyrics, or singers with strong vocal performances. Ultimately songs that make you feel something. I would say I draw inspiration from songwriters like Halsey, Jaymes Young and Dermot Kennedy. I also really love that artists like Billie and
Finneas Eilish created such interesting and original music from their house. That they made every creative decision from the songwriting itself to the production and everything in between is incredibly inspiring. I also really admire artists like Sam Cooke, Etta James, Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald, their songs just hit you in all of the right places. It's timeless music and you can't beat the emotion they pour into their singing.

Nagamag:
Many artists listen to genres that they are not producing music for. Which track is your favorite that is NOT similar to yours?

Estella Dawn:
Redbone "Come and Get Your Love"

Nagamag:
Of Course Nagamag would love to listen also which is the track from a similar artist you admire?

Estella Dawn:
Dermot Kennedy ‘Power Over Me’

Philippe Cohen Solal & Mike Lindsay – Scattering the fierce foeman (ft. Adam Glover & Hannah Peel) (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , |

“Scattering the fierce foeman – disturbing anthem, full of positive, endless energy. He bestows faith in the fact that in any case we shall be victorious in the serious trials faced in these difficult times.”

“Scattering the fierce foeman – будоражащий гимн, насыщенный позитивной, нескончаемой энергии. Он дарует веру в то, что мы в любом случае выйдем победителями в серьёзных испытаниях, с которыми столкнулись в эти нелёгкие времена.”

-Nagamag.com

Philippe Cohen Solal and Mike Lindsay release the brand-new album OUTSIDER today on ¡Ya Basta! Records. Listen HERE.
smarturl.it/outsiderdarger

Ten astonishing, heart-soaked pop songs, inspired by America’s most celebrated Outsider artist Henry Darger. The album release is accompanied by an official video for the track ‘Scattering the fierce foeman’ – directed by Gabriel Jacquel – watch HERE.

youtu.be/G8h12wI1tDc

OUTSIDER, an album of lush, twisted 1950s/60s Americana with stunning, vintage analogue instrumentation transports the listener into panoramic realms, gifting incredible instant-classic songs such as ‘Who Will Follow Angelinia’, ‘Hark Hark’, ‘Bring Them In’, ‘Can A Boy Forget His Mother?’, ‘851 Webster Avenue’ and ‘Scattering The Fierce Foeman’.

The album is a musical and visual extrapolation of Darger, his obsession with the weather, his tormented Christian faith, deceptively naive paintings and lyrics to songs, that have never before been set to music, written over 50 years ago. Darger was a reclusive hospital janitor, whose epic fantasy novels and visual artwork set the art world aflame upon its posthumous discovery. Darger’s work now exhibits around the world, changes hands for close to a million dollars and has admirers among artists including Grayson Perry, the Chapman brothers and musicians like Nick Cave, David Byrne, Sufjan Stevens and Devendra Banhart.

OUTSIDER has been five years in the making and the brainchild of Philippe Cohen Solal, the million-selling artist, producer and composer who co-founded Gotan Project. Solal has been given exclusive, unprecedented access to Henry Darger’s estate comprising lyrics, poems and visual art and has brought together an epic collaboration with Mike Lindsay from acid folk group Tunng, Hannah Peel and the vocals of Adam Glover.

The songs shimmer around the edges of altered states, luxuriously swelling through classic 1950s microphones, like Scott Walker at a pagan festival, music textured with mid-century Americana, under-the-radar found sound and hard weather. It’s PJ Harvey’s ‘Let England Shake’ orchestrated by Ennio Morricone in an illustrated world peopled by angels, valiant children, marching battalions, and vast, colourful landscapes depicting all of the above.

Solal and Lindsay co-wrote and co-produced all the tracks, with acclaimed solo artist and composer Hannah Peel on brass, strings and backing vocals to portray Darger’s child characters, the Vivian girls, and Adam Glover bringing the lush, crooning lead vocals, that conjur up Scott Walker and reflect the inner voice of Darger himself through the original lyrics. Mixed by Grammy-award winning Andrew Scheps (Adele, Beyonce, Lana Del Rey).

Speaking about the album, creator Philippe Cohen Solal said “I first came across Henry Darger’s work in 2003, and it has stayed with me ever since. I feel I know Darger. So many years I’ve been reading his books and living with his work and words. I feel connected because of the kind of child he was. The outside world was pretty mean to him when he was young and I relate it to what is happening to the world now: with autocrats and mean people We call him an ‘outsider artist’ but he was very inside himself – and he created a whole world inside. OUTSIDER has been five years in the making and it’s been a real labour of love. I imagined Adam’s luxurious, fantastically powerful and beautiful voice being the voice inside Henry’s head, the projection of himself to be stronger, more powerful.”

Mike Lindsay said “The music we created for OUTSIDER sounds like a late 1950s and early 1960s production, with this contemporary twisted, textured edge to it, somehow making it sound quite timelessI don’t know where it fits into contemporary music but it’s classic, it’s beautiful and it’s experimental.”

Hannah Peel said “You’d think the way he was writing; he’d gone to Woodstock on a crazy trip and then gone to church to cleanse his soul. He was a janitor but it’s like he had about ten different past lives, and ten future lives. Musically, it’s more resonant than ever. It’s really energetic and full and so full of hope and beauty and I think that’s really important with what we’ve all been through over this last year.”

OUTSIDER’s reflection of what it means to make art, isolated in one room has taken on extra relevance when so many of us are living in small spaces under lockdown. Philippe and his band of musicians have taken Darger’s questions of isolation, imagination and a David and Goliath fight against evil and turned them into the strangest, yet most beautiful lullabies you’ll ever hear.

Ivory Layne – Confetti [Official Music Video] (Video)

Categories: Pop, The Latest, Video|Tags: , , , |

“The music and vocals of Ivory Layne are a special, transparent as a rock crystal, state of mind. Just listen to her work Confetti, where every second spent alone with her will make your heart beat like at the end of the last day. You need to feel it. It needs to be heard. This must be understood.”

“Музыка и вокал Ivory Layne – это особое, прозрачное как горный хрусталь, состояние души. Вы только вслушайтесь в её работу Confetti, где каждая секунда проведённая наедине с ней заставит биться ваше сердце как на исходе последнего дня. Это нужно прочувствовать. Это нужно услышать. Это нужно понять.”

-Nagamag.com

London, UK: January 29th, 2021 – Rising Nashville-based singer songwriter Ivory Layne announces the release of her debut EP ‘Confetti’ today, and releases mesmerising music video for the title track.

Shot in her own home while in quarantine in Nashville, the music video for ‘Confetti’ resonates with Ivory’s love of movie soundtracks and captures the stirring ethereal ode to moving on from ‘the party that was so hard to leave’. The quarantined-inspired music video was directed by artists Aaron Campbell and Gatton with full art direction, styling and editing duties courtesy of Ivory herself. You can watch the video here

Ivory explains, “I wanted something colourful that we could feasibly bring to life in the confines of my place. We created ‘the party that was so hard to leave’ from the bridge of Confetti with cake, streamers, and glitter that refuses to help pay rent but somehow insists on sticking around.”

Set for release on the 18th of February 2021, the ‘Confetti EP’ is a collection of powerfully emotive songs that shows just why Billboard tipped her to become “the new Adele” and places her in the sphere of contemporary pop polymaths like Maggie Rogers.

Produced by Nick Atkinson and Edd Holloway aka The Barn Productions (Lewis Capaldi, Gabrielle Aplin, Dean Lewis) Jimmy Robbins (Keith Urban, Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert) and Ivory herself, the Confetti EP is Ivory’s first UK release since signing with Justin Timberlake’s development company Villa 40 and showcases the unique voice and masterful songwriting that caused Timberlake to sit up and take notice of Ivory’s talents.

Tipped for stardom by the likes of Billboard, V Magazine and Live Nation’s Ones To Watch, Layne’s remarkable talent has garnered critical acclaim as well as attracting a wealth of stellar collaborators.

In just a few years, she’s worked with Grammy award-winning producer Ed Cash (Dolly Parton, Amy Grant) on her debut EP; collaborated with Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness and Needtobreathe; written for other artists alongside co-writes with some of Nashville’s finest including Jimmy Robbins, Shane McAnally and Lori McKenna. Layne’s sharpness in the writer’s room has also landed her two global ad campaigns, one for prestigious jewellery house Swarovski and another for cable giant, HBO.

The Confetti EP is primed to cement Layne’s reputation as one of the world’s finest, rising female talents.

Dance Yourself Clean x Michael Medrano – Sugar (Spotify)

Categories: Audio, Features, Pop, Pop Features, The Latest|Tags: , , , |

“Dance Yourself Clean and Michael Medrano with the support of the Lights & Music Collective introduce us to the new work of Sugar, which has managed to create an interesting resonance in the soul of everyone who hears it again and again. Indie Electronic's melodic vocals and light beats are a cocktail for your mood!”

“Dance Yourself Clean и Michael Medrano при поддержке Lights & Music Collective знакомят нас с новой работой Sugar, у которой получилось создать интересный резонанс в душе каждого, кто услышит её вновь и вновь. Мелодичный вокал и лёгкие ритмы Indie Electronic - коктейль для вашего настроения!”

-Nagamag.com

Since 2013 Dance Yourself Clean had spent nearly every single weekend throwing parties across North America. With the pandemic the boys have turned their entire focus onto the party's transformation into a juggernaut music project. In the first full year since the project was created, 2020 brought in over 2.3 million streams on Spotify alone. With their new single "Sugar" set to release on NYE at 12am EST it looks like they're setting the scene for what may be a massive year of releases and collaborations. DYC had this to say about "Sugar", "Normally we'd be spending NYE with our friends and DYC family somewhere... Maybe Los Angeles at Teragram Ballroom or NYC at Baby's All Right. It kills us that we won't be able to be together this year celebrating. Setting "Sugar's" release date for midnight on the east coast and 9pm on the west coast is our way of being together with our DYC family across the nation. It may seem silly, but it means something to us and hopefully them too."
