The name ‘Counttessa’ was created with a desire to pay homage to Operatic role dichotomy (ie. there always seems to be a maid & a countess role.) ‘Counttessa’ is also a reminder to count musically as that part was always rather a struggle- from rhythm and timing, to music theory lessons. Counttessa synthesizes her classical training with a long love of songwriting which results with music somewhere in the middle
By using popular themes such as sexuality, relashionships and friendship, Counttessa touches various overlapping themes. Several reoccurring themes can be recognised, such as the relation between people, the sound of the words themselves, and provocation and investigation of inner emotion.
Many times autobiographical she often refers to pop and mass culture. Using sounds as symbols, a world where light-heartedness rules and where rules are undermined is created. By applying a poetic and often metaphorical language, she wants to evoke her childhood memories and amplify the emotion of the spectator by creating compositions that generate poetic images that leave traces and balances on the edge of recognition and alienation.
Her works appear as dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet, Pop and opera meld, meanings shift, past and present fuse. Time and memory always play a key role. Originally from Bridport, UK, Counttessa currently lives and works as radio personality in Kelowna, British Columbia
