I wrote this song for my parents. I moved back in with them during quarantine, and for the first time in my life, I really saw them break down and experience some difficult things. You always picture your parents as pillars - strong, stable and supportive - but it was only when I got older that I realized they’re as vulnerable as the rest of us. It seems obvious, but it’s a facade that we all want to hold on to as kids. Don’t parents always have a solution to every problem?! They were both going through a tough time and I felt so helpless. I wanted to see them happy and didn’t know how to fix it. I was talking about it with my friends Jack Emblem and Jesse Gold on a writing retreat last fall, while drinking wine and blasting The Fray. Jesse started playing these soft emotional chords and Jack started layering a beat over it, and the chorus popped into my head.
