Egopusher – Patrol Rework (Spotify)

“When ambient synth soundscapes are mixed with violin chords, "Patrol Rework" is born. Slow down a little bit and feel this magical creation for the next few minutes. Impressive, unique and deeply affectionate for your ears.”

2020. The world suddenly stands still. EGOPUSHER has to interrupt their «Beyond» tour. From the band bus back to the rehearsal room. Time to record the ambient album that has been floating in the back of their minds for a long time.

The Ambient Mix Tape is based on Tobias Preisig's and Alessandro Giannelli's wish to present their otherwise energetic sound in a calmer way. It comprises seven tracks, characterized by synthesizer sounds, impressive basses and intimate violin parts. Each piece has its place. What unites them is this comforting sound, which the duo recorded and produced on their own. Honest and direct.

Imitation, the incredibly fine and subtle opener, is an ideal introduction to this album. Inevitably, the gaze moves into the distance until the warm and powerful basses bring the listener back down to earth. In Sentinel, massive walls of sound build up between an organic hi-hat and an electronic bass drum. These walls open up effortlessly at the end. Finally, we return to the big screen with Vacuum. An appealing mix of 60s French cinema, Francis Lai and neoclassical coolness. The club and the stroboscopic lights take a break. But even in small and cramped rehearsal rooms their is enough space for sounds of epic proportions.

Preisig and Giannelli skillfully keep developing their unique and self-sufficient world of sound. This is their space. And it fills up again and again without ever being overloaded. The spherical dimension and omnipresent closeness to sound, that the duo creates at the same time are extraordinary. The careful mix by Berlin ambient piano artist Jan Wagner underlines this achievement impressively. The Ambient Mix Tape is a timeless result of a short epoch that makes the EGOPUSHER cosmos grow.
