Today, British duo Ferris & Sylvester share their debut album ‘Superhuman’. Preceded by a string of evocative singles, including fan favourites and live staples, it sees the pair deliver their first full-length project.
Between much loved singles ‘Sickness’ and ‘Flying Visit’; the hymn-like “Darkness I Feel”, and today’s sumptuous focus track “This Is How My Voice Sounds,” which is released with an accompanying video recorded live in London; this musical union plays into symbiotic harmonies and life lessons as they wrestle with light and dark, and everything from existential crises to the vulnerabilities of allowing someone to get close to you.
They say; ‘This record is our story. It unravels all that we have come to know and understand about being human. The messy parts which we all share and experience, though often we keep them safe behind our armour. Heart ache, rage, jealousy, loneliness and a need to be something more. Also, the wonderful parts, the things that shape us. Self knowledge, friendship, love, understanding, sacrifice. Our hope is this: you will feel connected, inspired maybe even empowered by our writing and will go forward with a new sense of courage and self belief.’
Described as ‘rage-ridden brilliance, one of the best bands of the last five years’ (BBC Introducing), ‘a masterpiece of Brit Folk’ (Mojo Magazine) and an ‘alt Simon & Garfunkel’ (The Guardian), Ferris & Sylvester’s punchy genre-mashing sound lands in a truly unique space where they fuse blues, folk and rock’n’roll sensibilities. Prolific live performers, clocking in over a hundred shows a year, pre-pandemic. Alongside sold-out headline tours, Ferris & Sylvester have played festivals like Glastonbury, Isle Of Wight and Sziget and shared the stage with everyone from Robert Plant to George Ezra and Jade Bird.
The 12 track album was recorded at Bear Creek Studios, Seattle USA with Grammy nominated producer Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, The Strokes), and at Sawmill Studios, Cornwall UK with producer Michael Rendall (Pink Floyd, Youth). Superhuman takes the listener on a journey through the duo’s world where genres intertwine and emotions are stripped down to the core with their timeless songwriting as your trustworthy guide. With singles ‘Superhuman’, ‘Golden’, ‘Breadwinner’ and ‘Darkness I Feel’ already unleashed, the duo have continued to sell out tours on both sides of the Atlantic, land coveted spots on Spotify tastemaker playlists, earn a place on BBC Introducing’s ‘Best of 2021’ list and receive support from the likes of Sunday Brunch, The Independent and Clash Magazine.
Heading out to SXSW for their first US shows since 2019 in a couple of days, there are more live shows and appearances set to be announced soon. Written over the span of two years across hotels rooms, splitter vans and every nook and cranny of their globetrotting existence, Superhuman’ was brought to life as they escaped to the countryside, embraced the charm of Cottagecore and discovered a life away from touring, where writing and recording was sandwiched between hiking, knitting and growing their own food. As they share the album with the world, they’re set to resume life on the road.
