Auckland duo Krispy & The Pooch are thrilled to share their silky-smooth, RnB-infused single ‘Don’t Play Yourself’ ahead of the release of their upcoming new EP THE RECKLESS ECLECTIC: PART ONE out Friday 10 June.

Having spent the last few years crafting music that is uniquely their own, Krispy & The Pooch can boast a distinctly modern sound built around lyricist Krispy’s soulful vocals, and The Pooch’s uncanny ear for sweet electro-synth beats.

A smooth, soothing track with an upbeat neo-soul groove, ‘Don’t Play Yourself’ is an irresistible blend that dishes up a flavoursome, infectiously dreamy jam, invoking a breezy summer day vibe.

The eclectic duo describe it as “a song about giving yourself (and others) permission to do what you love and chase your dreams, in whatever form they come.” The message is clear in the uplifting and optimistic ode, as Krispy’s suave vocals croon ‘You know it’s all I ever wanted, To live a life I’d love to lead, Chasing stars amongst the comets, Moulding my destiny.”

The Waiheke Island based duo of Kriston Batistic (aka Krispy) and Simon Townsend (aka The Pooch), originally conceived ‘Don’t Play Yourself’ when they were living and making music in Berlin at the end of 2019.

In the 3 years since, the tune has gone through many different iterations before finally settling as a mellow, RnB-infused song which takes the best of live instrumentation, and mixes in a sprinkle of electronic flavour in classic Krispy & The Pooch style.

Featuring Berlin musicians Nir Sabag (percussion) and Matt Paul (Synths/keys) and a horn section made up of Waiheke Natives - Julion Wright (Saxophone) and Jono Benzur (Trumpet), ‘Don’t Play Yourself’ is truly a team effort made up of passionate musicians from both sides of the world.
