Away From Here explores the dichotomy of home and away, exploring connections, roots, and restoration. The smooth soundscape and alternative hip-hop leaning beat are courtesy of producer Skripture, and feature additional vocals by Miss Baby Sol, complemented by the warmth of Ruth Sax’s saxophone.
Of the new single, Speech says:
"It's about the constant to and fro of, ‘I need to stay here because of my connections, my roots and money’, and the innate desire to be somewhere where vitamin D is in constant flow. In a way, I think without realising most of the UK and similar countries may have a beautiful balance between the two worlds. Sometimes superheroes don't always recognise their superpowers at the beginning of the movie. So we come alive, here, every summer".
Celebrated for her ability to articulate a vulnerable honesty in contrast to her husky tones, Speech gives some hints on what to expect from her highly-anticipated fourth album, and it’s unsurprising that the self-confessed food-lover (a semi-finalist on Celebrity Masterchef, cookbook writer, and podcaster) has been influenced by the connection, comfort and culture that food allows us to explore. The South London lyricist says of the title: “On a Monday, the Sunday dinner just tastes sweeter, everything has time to marinate and settle."
Featuring ‘Away from Here’, ‘Sunday Dinner On A Monday’ is an examination of family, friends, lineage, and ancestral DNA, through the lens of afro-futurism. “It’s about how we imagine and then create our own futures”, says Speech.
“The album is about our journey through life, as we learn from experiences that expand our senses. We learn internal management and get closer to ease. Some of us even become nourished, like a good meal. This is THAT album.”
‘Sunday Dinner On A Monday’ is set for a 2023 release, and has been mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominated and MOBO award-winning mixer and engineer Clinton McCreery (Enny, Kofi Stone, Manik MC), with writing and production from Skripture (Will.i.am, Gregory Porter, Basement Jaxx), and collaborations with Dem Drums, Jamaican production team Island Wav, Kensaye, and Mark Cake. It includes features from English contemporary pianist and composer Neil Cowley (Adele, Emeli Sande, Maribou State), Miss Baby Sol, Dylema, Alyesha Lei and Ruth Sax.
